PFAS Water Filter Recommendations
Not all water filters remove PFAS. We've tested and reviewed certified options across every category — from $35 pitchers to whole-house systems. Always verify NSF/ANSI 58 or NSF P473 certification.

Standard pitcher filters do not remove PFAS
Basic Brita, PUR, and standard carbon filters are not certified to remove PFAS. If PFAS above EPA limits was detected in your water, you need a certified option below.
How to Choose the Right Filter
Your water exceeds MCL — you need the highest removal rate possible.
PFAS found but under the MCL — reduce long-term cumulative exposure.
Levels not detected — but UCMR 5 tested at utility entry, not your tap.
Understanding NSF Certifications
The gold standard for reverse osmosis systems. Certifies reduction of a broad range of contaminants including PFOA, PFOS, and other PFAS compounds.
Specifically tests for PFOA and PFOS reduction in drinking water filters — pitchers, under-sink, and faucet-mount. The most targeted PFAS certification.
Covers health-related contaminant reduction. Some filters certified under NSF 53 also test for PFAS — verify the specific contaminant list on the product page.

Reverse Osmosis Systems
Most EffectiveRO systems remove 90–99.9% of all PFAS compounds by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane. Best choice if your water exceeds EPA limits. Under-sink units treat drinking and cooking water; countertop models need no installation.
Look for: NSF/ANSI 58 or NSF P473
Waterdrop G3P800 RO System
APEC ROES-PH75 RO System
iSpring RCC7AK 6-Stage RO System
AquaTru Countertop RO System
Under-Sink Carbon Filters
High Effectiveness, No Water WasteActivated carbon and catalytic carbon systems remove PFAS without the wastewater produced by RO. They retain beneficial minerals while achieving up to 99.5% PFAS removal. NSF P473 is the specific standard for PFAS — look for it over generic NSF 53.
Look for: NSF P473 or NSF/ANSI 53
Clearly Filtered 3-Stage Under-Sink System
Aquasana AQ-5300+ Max Flow Under-Sink
Pitcher Filters
Best for LOW Risk · No InstallThe right pitcher can remove PFAS — but only if it's NSF P473 or NSF 53 certified for PFAS specifically. Standard Brita and PUR pitchers are not rated for PFAS. Options below are appropriate for LOW–MODERATE risk households.
Look for: NSF P473 or NSF/ANSI 53 (confirm PFAS-specific testing)

Epic Pure Water Filter Pitcher
Whole-House Systems
Every Tap & ShowerWhole-house systems treat all water entering your home — every faucet, shower, and appliance. They're ideal for HIGH risk situations where PFAS exposure through bathing and laundry is also a concern. Professional installation is required.
Look for: NSF/ANSI 53 · Pair with an under-sink RO for drinking water for maximum removal
Aquasana EQ-1000 Whole House System
SpringWell CF1 Whole House Filter
Countertop & Off-Grid
No Plumbing RequiredGravity-fed countertop systems need no electricity or plumbing — great for renters, travelers, and emergency preparedness. Countertop RO systems (like AquaTru) offer near-RO performance without installation.
Note: Some countertop systems rely on independent lab tests rather than NSF certification — verify before buying.

Get Your Water Tested
UCMR 5 tests water at the utility entry point. Old pipes can add lead and other contaminants between the treatment plant and your tap. For a complete picture, test your actual tap water with a certified lab.
Certified PFAS Testing Labs
Mail-in water test with a full PFAS panel (all 40+ compounds). Results in 5–10 days. EPA- and state-certified labs.
Comprehensive testing including private wells. Provides a full metals, VOC, and PFAS panel. State-certified.
